Effective ways for settling into the University lifestyle

Going to University is the most exciting feeling ever. However, settling into University as first-year students can be challenging due to many reasons such as the new study lifestyle that students are exposed to, new location, cultural and language differences, lecturer’s teaching methods, being away from home and its comforts. Here are effective ways that we think will assist students to settle into university conveniently.

Choose a safe accommodation: most first-year students experience difficulties when moving away from their homes for the first time. If you want to get settled easily into the university choose a campus or private accommodation where you will feel safe and secure. However, choosing the right accommodation requires time and dedication. So, do your research about the place where you will stay before moving to University. Once you have done the research, move in and decorate your room the way you like and try to make it feel at home. For instance, place your belongings such as decor and family photos the way you want.

Be organised: are you a well-organised person? If you are, it will be easier for you to always be up to date. It is essential to remember that being organised will assist you to manage your university lifestyle and responsibilities effectively. Students should organise their study materials, studying areas and set obtainable goals towards their education which will make settling into a university lifestyle easier and more stressless for them.

To be organised requires discipline. Students should familiarise themselves with the university environment like a week before sessions commence. For instance, attending the Student Orientation program to get the opportunity to get to know the senior students, make study buddies and get to know the campus well.
